Meridian

James Walter Herrick, liked to be called Jim, died June 11, 2026, peacefully at his home in Meridian, Idaho, with his beloved wife by his side.  He was 84 years old and died of cancer.

Jim was born February 21, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Ordene Frances Bostwick and Walter Adolph Herrick.  Jim was named after his grandfather and father.

Jim grew up in Ogden, Utah, and Ely, Nevada.  He loved being outdoors and the open areas of Ely.  After graduating from high school, he served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission.  After his mission he atteded BYU, in Provo, Utah, graduating with a Bachelor's degree.  He worked for Hartford Insurance Underwriter for over 30 years in the business casualty department.

Jim was interested in politics, and was especially active in his church serving in the Boise and Meridian Temples and at the Family Search Center for many years.  He loved to go on walks, travel--especially by cruise ship--and loved to eat, except eggplant.  He loved going shopping, especially at Costco with all of the free samples...he could be gone for hours.  Jim loved his beloved dog, Josie, and loved to take her on walks.  While living in San Antonio, Texas, he became a Spurs fan.  Most recently he loved watching his grandson play college basketball and together they watched Major League baseball playoffs.  A hobby Jim enjoyed was taking pictures, especially birds, flowers, and his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Nancy (Maneval) Herrick; his blended family which includes Carol (Erin) Anderson, Ross (Robyn) Herrick, Sharon (Geoff) Wilson, Michelle Radonski, Jeff (Megan), Baron, Jason Baron, Justin (Amy) Baron, and Jared (Kristina), and Baron; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Jeanne (Walley) Smolik, his brother, Jerry Herrick, and his brother-in-law Mont Juchau. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jo Juchau.

A funeral service will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5555 N. Locust Grove, Meridian, ID. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Home, Garden City, Idaho.
