It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of James Walter Herrick, affectionately known as Jim. He passed away peacefully at his home in Meridian, Idaho, on June 11, 2026, at the age of 84, following a courageous battle with cancer, with his wife by his side.
Born on February 21, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona, to the late Ordene Frances Bostwick and Walter Adolph Herrick, Jim grew up in Ogden, Utah, and Ely, Nevada. After serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York, he graduated from BYU and dedicated over 30 years to a career as an insurance underwriter with Hartford Insurance.
Jim was a man of many passions. He was active in his faith, serving for many years in the Boise and Meridian Temples and at the Family Search Center. He had a keen interest in politics, loved traveling by cruise ship, and enjoyed long walks with his beloved dog, Josie. A fan of the San Antonio Spurs and college basketball, Jim also found great joy in photography—especially capturing birds, flowers, and family—and his legendary trips to Costco.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy (Maneval) Herrick; his children and their spouses, Carol (Erin) Anderson, Ross (Robyn) Herrick, Sharon (Geoff) Wilson, Michelle Radonski, Jeff (Megan), Jason, Justin (Amy), Jared (Kristina), and Baron; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Jeanne (Walley) Smolnik, and his brother, Jerry Herrick. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty (Mont).
A funeral service will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5555 N. Locust Grove, Meridian, ID. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Home, Garden City, Idaho.
