James “Jim” Harden, 78, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. Born on December 7, 1946, in Kalispell, Montana, Jim lived a life marked by unwavering faith, service, and devotion. His profound Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. Jim loved Jesus deeply and lived each day guided by strong values and an abiding trust in God. His kindness and generosity were evident to all who knew him—he was known for his willingness to help anyone in need and would literally give the shirt off his back without hesitation.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, with assignments in Germany, Fort Carson, Colorado – where he met his devoted wife of 56 years, Vietnam, and Fort Hood, Texas. His time in Vietnam was a source of deep pride throughout his life. Following his military service, he dedicated over three decades to civil service in power production at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. His commitment to supporting the mission of the U.S. Air Force through his civilian work reflected the same sense of duty and integrity that defined his military career.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jan Harden, his daughter JoAnna Boxrud and her husband Thomas. To JoAnna, he was not only a father but also an unfailing hero whose love never wavered. He cherished his role as grandfather to Brendon Ewing, Mark Ewing and his wife Hailey, and John Ellis III, taking immense joy in their lives and accomplishments. He also held a special place in his heart for his great-granddaughter Emerson Ewing.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Thelma Rennick and Earl Harden, and his sister, Vicki Stevenson.
His family remembers him as a man who adored them deeply—steadfast in love, generous in spirit, and always ready with open arms and an open heart. Jim was also known for his storytelling; he always had a story to share, bringing laughter and wisdom to those around him.
A memorial service honoring Jim’s life will be held in September, in Boise, Idaho. Details to come shortly.
May the memory of Jim Harden bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting testament to a life well lived in faith, service, and love.
