Jack Foster went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, and granddaughter, who faithfully cared for him in his final days.
Jack was born in 1937 in the southwest corner of the Ozark Mountains, in a log cabin along a dirt road between Cassville and Cape Fair, Missouri. He had four sisters and two brothers. He moved to Idaho in the sixth grade and graduated from Meridian High School in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Betha Goodwin, in 1957, and together they built a life centered on family and hard work, raising four children.
Jack began his career at NCR in 1957, where he worked for 20 years before retiring in 1977. He then devoted himself full-time to family farming, a passion he continued until his second retirement in 2005. He was also the ditch rider for the Little Pioneer in Star and the Canyon County Water Company from the early 1990’s until 2022, while still advising the company until a few weeks ago. He had a sharp mind, recreating a map of buried lines around his house a few weeks before he passed to help his grandson find the line. It was right where he said it was.
He found joy in the simple things—fishing, hunting, sharing stories, and, most of all, spending time with his family. His legacy lives on through his four children: Dianne Foster, Debbie Baldwin (Rod), Marcia Varone (Rich), and Shane Foster (Kandi), along with 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Betha, and his sister, Barbara Atwood.
A memorial service will be held at Lifespring Christian Church in Star, ID, on Saturday, May 2, at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
