J “Jack” Stewart Bunker
Born: April 5, 1933
Cherokee, Iowa
Passed: January 2, 2026
Caldwell, Idaho
J “Jack” Stewart Bunker was born April 5, 1933, to Joseph Edward Bunker and Vera Florence Stewart Bunker in Cherokee, Iowa. He passed peacefully at Autumn Winds Assisted Living and Memory Care on January 2, 2026, with his family in attendance.
Jack grew up in Cherokee, Iowa, and upon graduation of high school he attended college at Iowa State University before enlisting in the Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Guam. He later completed college in South Dakota and moved to California.
Jack married Janet Darlene Kinsey and they had two children, Deanne and Jeffrey. He worked for Sears and was transferred to Boise, Idaho. He then met his second wife, Doreen “Dodie” Langton Snow and her two daughters, Kathy and Shari.
Jack had a love of all sports as a young child. At a young age he started playing golf which that became his passion.
He was a member at Crane Creek Country Club for 40 years, where he would spend a majority of his time. He could be found on the practice green perfecting his short game, which would ultimately help him win numerous tournaments and become his legacy. Jack achieved the ultimate golf prize of not just one hole-in-one, but a total of nine holes-in-one!
Jack was hard working, a dedicated husband and father, and a friend to many. He touched many people’s lives with his stories and witty sense of humor. Jack loved dogs and always had a treat in his pocket for a four-legged friend that he’d happen upon. He was always available to lend a helping hand however he could. Jack loved sharing golf balls and delivering them to anyone that wanted them, especially to young golfers just starting out. This became his unique calling card.
Jack worked for Hewlett Packard for many years prior to retiring. Retirement wasn’t really for him, so he worked part-time at a golf course in Sun City, AZ. Upon moving to Meridian, ID, he continued part-time work at Lakeview Golf Course where he was employed until the age of 92.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his three siblings and his son Jeffrey.
He is survived by his wife Doreen “Dodie”, daughter Deanne (Scott) Clough, daughter Kathy (Doyle) Troyer, daughter Shari (Jay) Rundle, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and his dog TJ Mulligan.
The family would like to share their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Peter Sheesley and staff, the staff at St Luke’s Hospital Meridian and Nampa, and Caleb Christensen and the staff at Autumn Winds Assisted Living and Memory Care. Thank you for taking such good care of Jack and helping us through this journey.
