Irving “Jay” Eskelsen, beloved husband, father, brother, Grampie and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on February 9, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho, Jay lived a life of faith, family, and service. As a young man, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California and Arizona from 1958 to 1959. His testimony and belief in the gospel was
an important part of his life, and he was centered in its truth.
On February 9, 1961, Jay married his high school sweetheart, Joan Worsencroft. Their marriage of more than 64 years was a testament to love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they raised four sons—Matt, Todd, Danny, and Jimmy—who carry forward his example of integrity, kindness, and faith.
Jay built a long and successful career as a professional salesman, most notably as a sales executive with the HJ Heinz Company, where he worked faithfully for 28 years. He was admired by colleagues and clients alike for his professionalism, warmth, and dedication.
Those who knew Jay will remember his gentle humor, thoughtful gestures, and ability to bring light and life into every room. He had a gift for making others feel valued and loved, and his quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who met him.
Jay is survived by his loving wife, Joan; his four sons; Matt, Todd, Danny, and Jimmy; his daughters in law Patricia, Diane and Tera; along with his brother Chad, and sister in law, Lorna. He is preceded in death by his parents Irv and Alice, his five sisters Elaine, Betty, Mary, Ginny and June, and many other loved ones who welcomed him home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20th, at 11:00am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 2515 W. Ustick Rd, in Meridian, ID, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Jay’s remarkable life and legacy.
Jay’s life was one of devotion—to his family, his faith, and the countless people whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
