Herman Roest, age 77, passed away on May 17th, 2024, peacefully in his home.

Herman was born in Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands, on February 7, 1947, to Case and Gertrude (van der Stoel) Roest.

In 1964, Herman graduated from Escondido High School. Herman served our country in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam War. Herman and Margaret had known each other since childhood. They were married on September 5th, 1969. Herman and Margaret went on to adopt six children from various countries; Eric, Tricia, Karin, Josh, Chris, and Shawn.

Herman is predeceased by Case and Gertrude Roest, his brother Case Roest, and his son Shawn Roest. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Doelman) Roest, his children and spouses, Eric Roest, Tricia (Ryan) Heeringa, Karin Roest, Josh (Jessica) Roest, Chris Roest, and eight grandchildren whom he deeply loved.

Herman loved music. He would listen to a variety of genres, but his favorite type of music always involved the organ being played. Herman will be remembered for his optimistic and easygoing spirit, gratitude to others, and his love for Jesus. During Herman’s healthier years, he loved to see new places, tinker and fix things, and read and research genealogies and Biblical archaeology.

A graveside service for the family will be held at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery on Horseshoe Bend Road on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at Cloverdale United Reformed Church, 3580 North Cloverdale Road in Boise on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Samaritan’s Purse or the Cloverdale United Reformed Church.
