Henry Matthew Jones "Matt", age 76, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, surrounded by family who cherished him deeply. He fought a courageous 4 1/2 year battle with prostate cancer. A proud Navy veteran, ambitious hunter who loved the outdoors, dedicated engineer, lifelong learner, and loving husband, Matt lived a life marked by service, purpose, and quiet strength.
Born on May 2, 1949, Matt served his country with honor in the United States Navy, where he worked on nuclear submarines — a duty he carried out with deep pride and patriotism. His love for his country remained a constant throughout his life, reflected in his character, values, and unwavering sense of duty.
After his military service, Matt applied his talents and discipline in the training sector, working at Hanford, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and with numerous consulting firms over the course of a long and respected career. His expertise in nuclear training and engineering helped shape important projects, where he earned respect from his colleagues.
Remarkably, at the age of 60, Matt earned his Master’s degree in Instructional and Performance Technology at Boise State University — a testament to his curiosity, perseverance, and belief in lifelong growth.
In 1969, Matt married the love of his life, Bonnie. Their bond was the heart of his world — a partnership built on devotion, laughter, and enduring love that stood strong for over five decades. They enjoyed camping, and traveling, especially to Hawaii every year.
Matt will be remembered for his steady presence, dry wit, humility, and fierce loyalty to those he loved. He was a man who led by example, asked for little, and gave much.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, two daughters Tami (Thomas), Kim (Patrick) and his 4 grandchildren Courtney, Kyle, Drake, and Dylan. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
A service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Bowman Funeral Home in Eagle at 2 p.m.
