Henrik "Hank" Bech Jacobsen

July 27, 1943 — July 21, 2025

Star, Idaho

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Henrik “Hank” Bech Jacobsen, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, dedicated brother, uncle, and cherished friend, who left this world on the 21st of July at the age of 81.

He was the kind of father who never missed a game, a school event, or a family meal. His booming cheer from the stands, his wise advice, and his ability to make everyone feel like they belonged left an impact on countless lives. He also had a gift for storytelling, sharing memories of his Danish roots, family traditions, and the lessons he learned growing up in a bustling household of his parents (Soren & Inge), sisters (Kris, Merete, Lise, and Marguerite), and his brother (John).

As a lifelong lover of baseball, Coach Hank shared his passion for the game not just with his children, but with an entire community. As a dedicated coach, he didn’t just teach the fundamentals of the sport—he taught life lessons about teamwork, perseverance, respect, and heart. For so many, he wasn’t just a coach; he was a mentor, a role model, and a true friend.

Hank had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated. His laughter was contagious, his advice was wise, and his heart was immeasurably kind. He believed in hard work, but also in celebrating life’s simple joys—dinners with his family, hunting and fishing trips, backyard barbecues with Wiffle ball games, and sharing stories that always made everyone smile.

He is survived by his devoted bride of 46 years (Cathy), their 5 children (Soren, Cody, Marni, Jaryd and Dustin) and 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who will carry his legacy of love, strength, and kindness forward. He is also remembered by countless friends, players, and families whose lives he touched in unforgettable ways.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers, nurses, and medical staff who provided exceptional care and comfort. Thank you, LuNa Hospice House, Harrison Hope Hospice, and Dr Ye-Liew. Your kindness and support made a difficult journey more bearable, and we are forever thankful of your dedication and compassion.

A celebration of Hank’s life will be held on August 5th at 9 am at Fort Boise Baseball field (155 E Garrison Rd, Boise, ID 83702 ). In honor of his memory, the family asks that everyone wear their favorite baseball hat and/or jersey, because he believed life was always better when spent on the field.

In lieu of flowers. The family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association | Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Help in Hank's honor.

Though we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing that Hank’s spirit lives on in every family game of catch, every cheer from the stands, and every heart he inspired.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
