Our dear Helen “Diane” Sartain Carlisle of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, in Boise, Idaho at the age of 83. Born March 15, 1941, in Rupert, Idaho, she was the oldest daughter of Vernon Sartain and Margaret Catmull. As a child, she thought she must be a big deal for the whole country to celebrate her birthday with fireworks each year.

She had two brothers and two sisters; and as children, they enjoyed many adventures together.

In 1969, Diane met Don Lynn Carlisle over a military field phone at Toole Army Depot. They married February 1969 in Elko, Nevada. Together they raised three boys on several military basses after Don retired from the Marine Corps they settled in Boise, Idaho where they have lived for the past 38 years.

Diane often had multiple projects on the front burner, side burner, and back burner of life, such as sewing clothing, sharing home-cooked meals, organizing the house. Diane worked for the federal government and retired from the Forest Service after 20 years of service.

Diane found great comfort and inspiration in attending church services and working at the Boise Temple. She was also a devoted fan of BYU-TV where she loved listening to sermons and stories that provided encouragement and strength. She also enjoyed riding on the motorcycle and going to different places and meeting people. She was an avid reader and always had a book nearby and was also eager to loan one of her books out.

She fought a long battle with different illnesses, but often made the effort to smile and make others feel comfortable. She will always be remembered for her smile and her laugh.

Diane is survived by her husband, Don Lynn Carlisle; her brother, Dean; her sisters, Kathy and Sharon; her children, Robert James, Matthew Scott (Joie), Don Lynn (Nancy); six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
