On October 10, 2024, Harvey “Butch” Lowell Cox passed away in Nampa, Idaho. Born on November 15, 1946 in Prineville, Oregon to Lucille Jean (Dupraw) and Lowell Theodore Cox. Several years later his sister Kathleen, joined the family.

At the age of 15, his first job was at the original Les Schwab store in Prineville. Harvey graduated from Crook County High School in 1965.

On June 17, 1965 he joined the US Navy and rose to the rank of ADJ3 while serving as a plane captain on the USS Coral Sea in Southeast Asia. Harvey received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and Navy Unit commendation. His strong work ethic was reflected in his evaluations and letters of commendation/citation. Harvey was honorably discharged from active duty June 9, 1969, and from the Navy Reserves May 16, 1971.

Harvey met Marilyn Jane Hochhalter at a dance after being introduced by one of Marilyn’s best friends. The two were married in Nampa, ID on August 19, 1966. Their first daughter, Stephanie (Baldwin) was born in November of 1967. Their second daughter, Wendi (Wood) was born in November of 1969. In October of 1974, their son Brian was born and completed the family of five. Harvey and Marilyn were married until Marilyn died in April of 2006.

Harvey spent his career after the Navy as a mechanic and body man, with a small stint working for the DMD division of Hewlett-Packard. He retired from Motive Power where he painted locomotives.

Harvey is survived by his three children and eight grandchildren (Demetria Wood, Michela (Cox) Sharits, Shea Wood, Joshua Baldwin, Torin Wood-Galaz, Adam Al-Saidy, Melissa Baldwin, and Matteo Cox). He is proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn.

A committal service will be held, 11:00 am, Monday, March 24, 2025 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
