Hannelore Phippen
Hannelore Phippen, born Hannelore Heiser in Mannheim-Sandhofen, Germany, on October 31, 1944, died peacefully on August 6, 2025. She was born to Ludwig and Karolina (Ficker) Heiser in the last few months of World War II. Her mother passed away before Hannelore was old enough to form a memory of her, so she was raised with her many siblings by her father, stepmother, and grandmother. After completing public school, she attended a finishing school where she began developing her expert knowledge of etiquette and domestic arts.
Hannelore met her future husband, Jack Phippen, in early 1965 when he was stationed nearby with the U.S. Air Force. They soon married in Binsfeld, Germany. After Jack's tour of duty in Germany, she accompanied him to the United States where she gave her full support to his military responsibilities and to his later employment with the FAA. Hannelore worked as a hospital aide, became an active member of the ham radio community, and later started a successful housekeeping business in the Seattle area. When they moved to Cascade, Hannelore worked for the local backcountry flying service at the airport. She and Jack built and enjoyed a lovely home in Round Valley, where they welcomed friends and family often. Eventually they moved to Boise for the convenience of medical and other services.
Wherever Hannelore went, she quickly made friends. Never was she without the camaraderie of other German speakers. She and Jack visited her family in Germany several times over the years and enjoyed traveling to many other interesting places. Her sparkling personality and bright spirit were a magnet for others, and she loved hosting their many friends in their home. She shared her life generously with all her friends and family.
Many will dearly miss this wonderful lady, including: Jack, her husband of 60 years; granddaughter, Cassie; her son, Tom; several siblings, including Trudi, Mathilde, and Traudl; and her many nieces and nephews residing in Texas, Virginia, California, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, and Germany.
