Grayson D. Yoder, 80, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Grayson was born on February 26, 1946, to Donald Yoder and Sophia May Busby. He lived a life defined by service, hard work, devotion to family, and a remarkable ability to fix just about anything.
A decorated Vietnam War veteran, Grayson devoted many years of his life to serving his country in the United States Army. He had a long and distinguished military career, eventually retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. His military service was an important part of who he was, and his family was incredibly proud of all he accomplished and the sacrifices he made along the way.
Grayson loved to fish and play golf and could spend hours watching the Golf Channel sometimes with his eyes closed. He was happiest when he had something to work on and could often be found in his garage or shop building, fixing, or figuring out how to make something work again. He loved cars and animals and had a particular soft spot for Dachshunds, his beloved wiener dogs. He also loved dessert; no matter what had been served for dinner, there always seemed to be room for something sweet.
More than anything, Grayson loved his family. The fishing trips, time spent in the garage, conversations, and stories, watching television, working on cars and projects, and the ordinary moments spent together became a lifetime of treasured memories.
Grayson, better known to his family simply as Papa, lived a life full of love, service, family, and a whole lot of fixing things. He served his country with distinction, loved his family deeply, fixed more things than anyone could probably count, enjoyed a good fishing story and an even better dessert, and gave the people who loved him a lifetime of memories.
Grayson is survived by his beloved wife, Reba; his daughters, Stacy and her husband, Brian, and Sabrina and her husband, Paul; six grandchildren, Sara and her husband, Kevin, Zackery, Christopher, Dana, Andrew, and Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Casey and Teagan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheri.
Those who knew and loved Grayson will carry his memory forward in the stories they tell, the lessons he taught them, the things he showed them how to do, and all the ordinary moments that turned out not to be ordinary at all. He will be missed more than words can say and loved for generations to come.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery located at 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho 83714. Pastor Jay with White Oak Hospice will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Grayson’s honor to the Gary Sinise Foundation or Disabled American Veterans.
