Goon Lim

Goon Lim, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 6 2026, at St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center, surrounded by his loving daughters and granddaughters. He was a faithful husband, determined father, and doting grandfather. His radiant, genuine kindness touched all those that met him, leading him to create lasting bonds even with strangers. For that, especially, he will be missed.

Goon was born February 21, 1934, in Taishan, Guangdong, China. When he was 17 years old, he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling down in Boise, Idaho, the city he called home for 74 years. Goon served in the United States Army for two years following the Korean war and attended Boise Junior College to become an auto mechanic. Later, he became a chef for the Golden Star Restaurant and worked tirelessly to support his wife and three children. In retirement, Goon lived simply and happily. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his Chinese vegetable garden, and feeding the local squirrels who eagerly rushed up the steps to his house every morning.

Despite the challenges that come with moving to a new country, Goon took it in stride. Late nights, sacrificing rest, and saving every penny was like second nature to him. He didn’t hesitate to work himself to the bone if it meant that his children could have a bright future. This desire carried on with his grandchildren as well. He was always insisting upon the importance of a good education to support a successful career. Seeing those wishes for success come true in both his children and grandchildren brought him so much peace. His family was his absolute pride and joy.

He worked hard for all he had and was an inspiration to all those that had the privilege to know him. His lively sense of humor, persistent care, and relentless dedication to his family was unmatched. One would be hard-pressed to find a father or grandfather who loved as deeply as he did—and who was loved just as deeply in return.

He will be greatly missed, fiercely remembered, and loved for years beyond his knowledge.Goon is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Fanly Lim; his brother, Gon Lim; his children, Michael Lim, Lena Hui, and Linda Hicks; and six grandchildren, who he utterly adored.
