Glenda Sharon “Sherry” Jones, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on November 27, 1935, in Brigham City, Utah, to Virginia Arlene Butler and Oscar Theodore Nelson. Sherry lived a full and meaningful life, centered on faith, family, and simple joys.
She was a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including Primary and Relief Society. She loved the hymns of the Church and continued to respond to them with peace and emotion throughout her life. Her faith in Jesus Christ was an important part of who she was, and she found comfort in prayer, temple attendance, and the hope of being reunited with loved ones.
Family meant a great deal to Sherry. She was first married to Wilbur Wilson Stirling, and later sealed in the temple to Victor Jones, who preceded her in death. She enjoyed using her skills to care for her family—sewing flannel nightgowns each Christmas and making many of her daughters’ dresses growing up. She also believed in the importance of homemade meals and made sure her family had good food around the table.
Sherry had a creative and fun-loving side. She wrote and performed cowboy poetry, often from memory, and was known for her quick sense of humor and easy laugh. She loved gardening, especially growing flowers, and participated in Ms. Senior Idaho, where she visited care centers to sing and dance with others, something she found both meaningful and fun.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sherry Fernandez (Ken), A. Virginia “Gigi” Davis (Brent), Jamie Metz (Roger), Billie Jo Hess (Keith), and Charlie Stirling; along with 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Near the end of her life, she often expressed how much she loved her family and how important it was to her that they stay close and continue to support one another.
Sherry leaves behind a legacy of faith, joy, and enduring love. Her influence continues in the lives of those she touched. We celebrate her life with gratitude and peace, knowing she has returned home to her Savior and a joyful heavenly reunion.
