Gilbert M. Rose, Jr. 78, of Boise, Idaho passed away on April 26, 2023 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Gilbert (Butch) was born on March 19, 1945, to Gilbert and Mary Elaine Rose in Nampa, Idaho.  (At Gil’s time of birth his father was serving in the US Navy on the USS Tucson in the Pacific Theater during WWII)  Gilbert was raised in Nampa, the oldest of 7 Children.  He loved riding his bicycle around town to visit his friends and his Grandma & Grandpa Fisher.  After moving to the Sunny Ridge area south of Nampa, he mowed lawns for many people and families he knew.  This gave him the funds to buy hamburgers and milk shakes for himself and friends. It also paid for gas to drive a nice pickup loaned to him by his Grandfather.  Spending time with his father at the old KFXD Radio station and helping choose music from the “Good Old Days” of “Rock and Roll” for the Radio was an enjoyable part of his youth.

Gilbert went to schools in Nampa, graduating from Nampa High School in 1963.  His favorite high school activity was running the audio visual films for classes and choosing music for the“sock hop” dances.  He also “Lettered” in track.  After high school he attended the University of Idaho,

and served in the Army National Guard of Idaho from 1965 to 1971.

He worked for multiple companies; J. C. Pennys at the downtown Nampa and Karcher Mall stores, 15 years at Albertsons Corporate Office in Boise, Idaho, and Retired from Hewlett Packard in Boise.

Gil met the Love of his life Leota Oswald in 1966 and a year later they were married  on April 28, 1967 at Middleton, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Leota Rose ( Boise, Idaho), Daughters Sherri Rose- Mullins (Moon) of Tacoma, Washington; Sabrina “Bria” Wright (Trent) of Lexington, Oregon; 2 Granddaughters, 2 Grandsons, a Granddaughter- in- Law and 1 Great Granddaughter.  Sisters Mary Lou Serr of Salt Lake City, Utah; Betty Monroe Trent (Tom) of Eugene, Oregon; Robin Riedel- Poneman (Fred) of Henderson, Nevada; Brother Laurence Rose of Columbia Falls,  Montana; and many nieces and nephews.

Gilbert touched the lives of all who knew him. He loved collecting, recording, listening, and sharing good vintage music.  Cleaning, waxing and driving cars of the 50s, 60s and 70s on trips or vacations.   He liked to ride motorcycles in the Idaho mountains, and comfort camping; but, loved most of all to be at home with his family and friends.

Gilbert was a good man who loved and cared deeply for his friends, grand parents, parents, brother and sisters, wife, children and grandchildren.  He was a good Christian and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

There will be a celebration of his life at the Middleton, Idaho Cemetery on May 20, 2023 at 2 PM for family and friends.  The Family would like to express their gratitude to all that cared for him at Shaw Mountain of Cascadia (Boise, Idaho) and Blue Bird Hospice of Meridian, Idaho.
