Gerald E. Stiburek
Gerald “Jerry” Stiburek was born on October 26, 1938 to Joe and Dorothy Stiburek in Boise, Idaho. Jerry and his parents lived in Cascade for a short time and during World War II lived in Portland, OR, while his father worked at the shipyards. Following his parent’s divorce, Jerry and his mother moved back to Cascade, ID, where his mother worked for Bradley Mining Company. While there, his mother met Jerry’s future stepfather, Lowell Bain. In 1951, at the age of 13, Jerry moved with his mother to Valdez, Alaska, where his mother married Lowell Bain. In 1953 they moved from Valdez to Anchorage. Jerry graduated high school in Anchorage in 1957. Jerry’s younger brother, Curtin Bain, was born in 1957.
Shortly after high school, Jerry moved back to Cascade to live with his grandparents on their farm outside Donnelly, Idaho. Later he and his grandmother moved to Cascade. Jerry went to work for J.I. Morgan logging and spent the next 26 years working in the logging industry in Valley County. During the winter months when logging was shut down, Jerry went back to Alaska to visit his parents and drove the Alaska Ice Roads, long before Ice Road Truckers was a television reality show.
In 1973, Jerry met Patty Stiburek in Boise, ID. On August 17, 1979, Patty and Jerry were joined in marriage in Boise. Jerry and Patty made their home in Boise while Jerry worked in the logging industry in Cascade and Patty worked in Boise. Eventually, Jerry moved permanently to Boise and went to work for Lumber Products. Jerry retired in 2003 and enjoyed his retirement years spending time with Patty, restoring his 1957 Ranchero and visiting friends and family in the Cascade and Boise area.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patty Stiburek; brother, Curtis Bain (Melissa), Anchorage, Alaska; and several cousins in the Boise Valley and close friends in Valley County. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Bain; Stepfather, Lowell Bain; and father, Joe Stiburek.
At Jerry’s request, there will be no services. The family will spread his ashes at a future date. The family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity in Jerry’s memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
