Loving Memory of
Gary Eugene Parypa
November 9, 1956 – April 2, 2026
No single person can fully recount the entirety of a loved one. People grow and evolve, and we each see different pieces of who they are. This is just a glimpse into the life and experiences of Gary.
Gary Eugene Parypa was born to Hazel and Andrew Parypa. The family moved to Bremerton, Washington where he grew up as the second youngest of seven sons. Music ran deep in the family, their mother played guitar and passed that love to her sons. Gary looked up to his brothers and carried the family's musical spirit with him throughout his life.
His upbringing provided him with the kind of freedom that shaped his independent spirit. He was a man who charted his own course, not just doing things because he was told, but because he had reasoned them out himself. He had fond memories of playing Pee Wee football, cruising around town with friends, was voted "most popular" in junior high, and enjoyed going to football games.
He met Davina in July 1975 and married her on July 24, 1980. His dedication to both his spouse and family remained steadfast throughout. Providing for and taking care of the people he loved was not just a responsibility to Gary, it was a calling. Together they raised three children, Tanya, Angela, and Amber, and he was a proud grandfather to Hazel and Killian.
Gary built a career for the Department of Defense at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where his sharp mind for problem-solving and his drive to improve the systems around him made a lasting impact.
The outdoors was where Gary truly came alive. He loved mountain river scenes, exploring forest roads, and seeking out new vistas from kayaking to hiking that most people never find. He had a particular fondness for staying in unique places, high above the world with nothing but trees and sky. In his later years he built a wonderful retirement in the Boise area, where he continued making discoveries and exploring the landscapes he loved.
Among his most treasured traditions were the annual trips to Sun Lakes with family and friends. Those trips had a rhythm all their own: cliff jumping, jet skis, chicken wings, Mexican food Fridays, and always setting up at the spot. For everyone who was there, those memories are the kind that stay with you.
