Frederick Michael “Mike” Humeston, 81, of Idaho, passed away January 8, 2006, at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho. He was born on November 15, 1944, in Miami, Florida.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including service in Vietnam. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Mary Viviette Jackson, in 1973. Together they were blessed with five children and, in 1979, made their home in Idaho after relocating from Florida.

Mike deeply loved the Idaho outdoors, especially hiking in the Owyhee Mountains. He had a lifelong passion for western and Native American history and was known for his curiosity and love of learning. A natural storyteller, Mike could captivate anyone with his tales of history, travel, and life experiences.

He enjoyed working with his hands and restoring his beloved vintage Volkswagens, always eager to help his VW crew keep theirs running as well. Mike also cherished road trips and driving, finding joy in the journey as much as the destination. Over the years, he explored the far corners of the American west and enjoyed many hobbies, including beekeeping, coin collecting, antiquing, and sharing stories with family and friends.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Humeston; his children, Rachael, Amanda, Olivia, and Seth; his grandchildren, Freddie, Avery, and Charlotte; and his siblings, Dart and Penny.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Rebecca.

Mike will be remembered for his service, his kindness, his love of history and adventure, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
