Nyssa, Oregon

Fred Edward Curry of Nyssa, Oregon, passed away on Sunday September 13th, 2026, at the age of 67. A short service will be held on Friday, October 30th, at 2:00 PM, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.

Fred was born in Caldwell, Idaho on January 22nd, 1959, to Harry and Inez Curry. He went to serve his country by enlisting in the Army in 1980 where he served as a Construction Equipment Mechanic and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. After the Army, Fred spent his entire career working on vehicles and heavy equipment for many different companies, farmers and friends. He married Marge Dubose in Elko, Nevada in 1987 and while he had no children of his own her boys accepted him into their family and was known as Grandpa to many of their children.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and two nephews. He is survived by his Wife, two older sisters, multiple neices, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly. The following was written by one of his grandchildren, Brittany Thornock:

Fred (Kirby) Curry or also well known to so many as “Freddy Bear” was a man of few words but replaced with many heart felt action. Grandpa was Dependable to a fault, he was a busy body always “retiring” to just get a job. Grandpa was generous, funny, caring and devoted to those he truly loved in his own way. He loved throwing barbeques on the patio or in the garage year round just to be around family and grandkids and great grandkids.

He also loved shooting the breeze with his friends and family at one of his favorite restaurants or in his nephews’s tow yard “working.” My grandpa also loved hunting, camping and fishing, he especially enjoyed taking his great grandkids to do all of these and teach them his ways. These adventures were how he showed his genuine love to us. His big heart also extended to all his animals he took in, especially the stray kitties he loved to spoil with treats and for my grandma to do the dirty work for (haha).

All in all he was a wonderful man to his family.

Now to get a little personal to me, two shoes he was so much more in points of my life he took personal care of me with his beautiful wife, my grandma, who he annoyed and loved in equal parts. My grandpa always made me feel so loved and special and losing him has been harder than any words can ever explain. I feel for those who never had the pleasure to meet him, but I’m thrilled for those who had the pleasure and love of our dearly missed Freddy Bear. I’m so happy for your peace grandpa. I love and miss you.

Your Two Shoes,

Brittany Thornock
