Francis (Frank) John Gaughan, Jr.
Francis (Frank) John Gaughan, Jr., passed away in his home in Eagle, ID on August 29, 2024.
Frank grew up in Clifton, NJ and San Diego, CA. He was a star athlete in high school football, baseball, & basketball, studied literature in college, and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life, Sheree Mead, on May 24, 1986 in Shaker Heights, OH. Frank worked for the Kyocera Corporation for almost 20 years, but he held a wide range of jobs before that, including SeaWorld employee, writer, electrician, shoe salesman (for three days), and maintenance man.
After retiring, he volunteered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for 10 years. He was proud to participate during a period when the Foundation helped increase the average CF patient’s lifespan by 10-20 years. He was also on the board of the Sabin Children’s Foundation; was on the board of and served as temporary CEO of Doc Warner’s Alaska Adventures; and served church missions to Houston, TX and Melbourne, Australia with Sheree.
Whether it was enjoying a Magnum ice cream bar, laughing at a good story, or fishing in the Alaskan wilderness, Frank lived to share the things he loved with family and friends. He was generous with his time and resources, made up games with his grandchildren, and put together incredible family vacations. Frank was a decisive man. He proposed to Sheree a month after they started dating; 30 years later, he convinced her to buy a home during a 3-day “exploratory” trip to Idaho. He was also meticulous: his desk was always organized, his car was always clean, and (when it was up to him) he always arrived on time. Most importantly, he was always there for the people in his life with kindness and genuine support.
He loved spending time with his family, participating in his church community, coaching his son’s baseball teams and taking them to San Diego Padres games, quoting literature and the self-improvement courses where he met Sheree, going to Disneyland at Christmastime, and fishing at Doc Warner’s in Excursion Inlet, AK.
He is survived by his spouse, Sheree; his sons and daughters-in-law, Alex and Tara, Nick and Annie, Michael and Brittney, and John and Allie; his siblings, Pat McGill, Maureen James, Kevin Gaughan, and Sharon Stewart; seven grandchildren (plus one on the way); and eight nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 5, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2090 N. Eagle Rd. in Eagle, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise.
In lieu of flowers for the family, Frank requested that people donate to the Humanitarian Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or to a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
