Evalyn M Sherwood was born on June 25, 1939, and went to Heaven on May 10, 2023. She was born to Walter Gluz and Ann Marlin and raised by Willard and Evelyn Marlin Hardman. Evalyn was a beloved mother and grandmother who most enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known as a fierce, loving, and independent woman, who gave generously and lived life with intent.

The first to graduate college in her family from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Evalyn started her career as an elementary school teacher. With a spouse, three young kids and an entrepreneurial spirit, she started her own pre-school in Canton Ohio, Learn & Play Pre-School, where young children played, thrived, and prepared skills for elementary. After moving to California, Evalyn started a career in finance at Morris Plan (later American General), where she quickly advanced through the ranks to regional manager, overseeing all of Northern California. Evalyn was an inspiration to her daughter and her employees with her intelligence, smile, and love of learning new things. She radiated delight when attending her children’s sports and school events, like James’s football games and wrestling matches and became “second mom” to many of their friends.

After retirement, she lived in both Las Vegas and Fresno, where she enjoyed spending time with her son James, his wife, Ana, and grandboys – Drew, Riley, and Reid – enjoying meals and holidays and celebrating their sports games, dances, and graduations. They were her true joy and light. She later moved to Idaho to spend time with her daughter, Ann, who will miss her dearly.

Evalyn’s friends share stories about her quick wit and dry sense of humor, as she spent time laughing with her Red Hat Society pals, Psychic Eye coworkers, Elks Club buddies, church friends, and neighbors. She loved helping others and was known to invite solo friends of her children to holiday dinners when they had nowhere else to go. She will be remembered with love, gratitude, and kindness.

Evalyn is survived by her siblings Margaret Rothrauff, Phyllis St. John, Tom Gluz, and Willard Hardman and their families. She is also remembered by son, James Sherwood, daughter-in-law, Ana Sherwood, grandchildren Drew Sherwood, Riley Sherwood, and Reid Sherwood and daughter, Ann Smith, and son-in-law, Larry Smith.

Evalyn passed in her sleep of natural causes and will join her beloved firstborn son, John Sherwood, in the sweet hereafter.
