Elsa Mae (Bohlin) Boint

September 3, 1931 — June 12, 2025

Boise

Elsa Mae Boint, 93, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by family. Born on September 3, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Hannah and Carl Bohlin, Elsa was the second oldest of five children and lived a life marked by compassion, resilience, and generosity.

She earned her nursing degree from the James Ward Thorne School of Nursing of Passavant Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University on September 18, 1952. Her long and dedicated career as a nurse included many years at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she faithfully served wherever she was needed before settling into the outpatient department. Elsa was also a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church and a cherished part of the Mount Prospect community for four decades.

Elsa married Robert Boint in November of 1953. Though their marriage ended in 1967, it brought her three beloved children: Karen (Kevin) Johnson of Boise, Idaho; Barbara Boint (Dick LaBar) of Eagle, Idaho; and Tom Boint (Nancy Hankins of Fort Myers, Florida. She treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Elsa is survived by her grandchildren Andrea (John) Baerwald of Boise, Idaho; Matthew (Mia) Johnson and great-granddaughter Hannah of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by her brother George Bohlin (Sandy Trilli) of Schererville, Indiana, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Hannah Bohlin, her sister Ruth White, brothers Norman Bohlin and John Bohlin, and great-grandson, Edwin Oliver Johnson.

Proud of her Swedish heritage, Elsa maintained close ties with relatives in Sweden, writing and speaking with them in Swedish until the final week of her life. She made several trips to Sweden over the years, deepening her connection to her family roots.

In 2005, Elsa moved to Boise to be near her children and grandchildren. She quickly became part of the community, forming lasting friendships at the YMCA, Salmon Creek, Affinity, and MorningStar. She loved traveling, playing card games, and was happiest in the company of her family.

A lifelong giver, Elsa generously supported many charities throughout her life, always thinking of others and helping where she could. She was also a devoted Chicago Cubs fan—ecstatic when the team finally won the World Series in 2016, a victory she joyfully celebrated with family and fellow loyal fans. Let’s hope it’s not another hundred years!
