Elliana "Ellie" Helene Johnson

Ellie, born July 19, 2020, took her last gentle breath in the quiet early morning hours of September 8, 2026, cradled securely in the arms of the parents who adored her. She was six years old.

To meet Ellie was to feel pure sunshine; to know her was to love her with your whole heart. Her first year of life was everything a family could dream of—full of bright smiles, sweet milestones, and joyful discovery. Shortly after her first birthday, a complex neurological regression changed her journey overnight. After an agonizing year of searching for answers, the National Institutes of Health diagnosed Ellie with Aicardi-Goutières Syndrome (AGS).

Though AGS took away her ability to speak, sit, and move freely, it never touched the depth of her spirit. Ellie’s strength throughout her life was awe-inspiring, even while our deepest ache remains that she had to be so brave.

Her life was marked by fierce resilience and an extraordinary community of care. From the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to Seattle Children’s and her dedicated care team at St. Luke’s Children’s at home in Boise, Ellie fought through unimaginable challenges. Following a prolonged five-month hospitalization battling status dystonicus in 2026, Ellie returned home just in time to celebrate her sixth birthday, resting where she belonged most—surrounded by comfort, devotion, and unending love.

Deeply loved and championed through every step, Ellie is survived by her parents, Natalie and Pete, and her devoted sister, Madelyn. Her memory lives on with her grandparents, Christine Johnson, Norm Bowlby, and Nancy Updegraft Bowlby; her aunt and uncles, Nicole and Nick Palmer (Blake, Lexyn, and Karis), and Matt Johnson; and her beloved doggies, Henry and Bella.

While the grief of losing her is immeasurable, so was the immense gift of loving her. Her body is finally still, completely healed, and running free in heaven. We will carry her light and honor her memory with every breath we take.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM at Center at the Park, 1920 N. Records Way, Kleiner Park in Meridian, followed by a celebration of life at 4:00 PM at Kleiner Park (Shelter B1) in Meridian.
