Eleanor Mapes, 91, of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Meridian, Idaho, surrounded by her four children.

Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on November 3, 1934, Eleanor lived a long, full life marked by warmth and an unwavering devotion to her family. She raised her four children with love, creating a home where everyone felt welcome.

Eleanor spent many years in Ventura, a community she cherished deeply. She was known for her gentle spirit, her steady kindness, and her ability to make any gathering feel special. She enjoyed cooking, teaching exercise classes for 30 years, and traveling with her husband to spend time with family. She loved having her children and grandchildren visit for summer vacations—taking them to the beach, preparing their favorite meals, and creating cherished lifelong memories.

Eleanor loved the Lord and His church, offering countless hours in service to her church community. She approached each day with gratitude and quiet strength. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her husband and family. She spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, pouring love and care into every relationship.

Eleanor is survived by her children Debra Annest (Jim Annest), Carmina Annest (Lee Annet), Marion Nay (Dave Nay), and John Mapes (Carrie Mapes). She was blessed with nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who cherished her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Mapes.

A family celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at Balboa Island in Newport Beach California.

Eleanor will be remembered for her loving heart, her kindness, and the legacy of faith she shared with all who knew her.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
