Edward G. Romero, known to his loved ones as Ed, peacefully passed away on October 10, 2023, at the age of 85 in Nampa, Idaho. Born on February 26, 1938, in Grand Junction, Colorado to Teofilo and Sally Romero. Ed led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ed was a devoted family man who treasured spending time with his loved ones. He had a deep passion for his family, and his phone calls were a source of joy and laughter for all. Ed had a mischievous sense of humor and often delighted in making prank calls to his family, pretending they had ordered pizzas or Chinese food. His playful nature brought laughter and smiles to those around him.
In his younger years, Ed showcased his athleticism as a skilled swimmer, holding three Idaho State records in the butterfly stroke. He was also an accomplished bowler, competing in state championship competitions with his league. Ed’s love for sports extended beyond his personal achievements, as he selflessly served as a little league football and baseball coach. He also dedicated his time to teaching disabled and handicapped individuals how to overcome their fear of water and develop basic swimming skills.
Later in life, Ed found solace in spending time at his brother Bob’s coffee shop in downtown Nampa. Alongside his brother and regular patrons, they formed a close-knit group known as the “Coffee Mafia.” Ed entertained customers with his captivating stories and conversations, some of which were embellished for their amusement.
Edward will be forever cherished by his beloved wife of 63 years, Shirley Romero (nee McKnight) of Nampa, and their children Victoria Romero Davis of Nampa, Elizabeth “Lisa” Swenson (Mike) of Council, and Randall “Randy” Romero of Boise. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty (Ed) Lane, Juanita (Derald) Harmon, Ken (Elaine) Romero, and Kathy (Karl) Bantz; brothers-in-law Dan Scroggie, Glen McKnight and Steve Hodges; sister-in-law Sandy (Chick) Schomburg. Ed leaves behind a legacy of love, as he is remembered by his eight grandchildren Allen (Kim) Johnson, Eric (Angie) Phillips, Alex Romero, Dante’ Stallcup, Ryan (Hana) Stallcup, Cody (Tiffany) Stallcup, Alexis (Paul) Piraino, Madison Romero and seven great-grandchildren, Brayden, Brandon, Harper, Marlee, Saylor, Luna, Atlas along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo “Ted” and Sally Romero, his sister and brother-in-law Ruth & Ray Martinez, his sister Lucy Scroggie, his sister Linda Romero, his brother Bob Romero, his brother and sister-in-law Richard “Rick” and Maria Romero, and his sister Eileen Hodges. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
Edward’s dedicated service to his country is worth noting. He proudly served as a cook and kitchen supervisor in the Army National Guard of Idaho, with one year of active duty in the United States Army. His commitment to his military associations exemplified his loyalty and dedication to his country.
In his leisure time, Ed found immense joy in fishing, time with his family, and Sunday drives. These provided him with moments of peace and fulfillment in his life.
A Celebration of Life for Edward G. Romero will be held on Saturday, November 18th, from 1-3 pm at the Ustick Road Church of the Nazarene, located at 817 West Ustick Road, Caldwell, Idaho 83605. The service will include an Honor Guard Ceremony at 1:30 pm, paying tribute to Ed’s military service. A light meal will be served, allowing family and friends to come together to honor and remember a remarkable man.
Edward G. Romero will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His infectious laughter, sense of humor, kind heart, and captivating stories will forever be treasured. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
