Obituary

Douglas Lee Gross was born October 8th, 1948 in Tacoma, Washington to his parents Clarence Reinhold Gross and Arvilla Pauline Shafer. He passed away on May 12th, 2026, surrounded by his wife Cam, sons Evan and Justin and daughter-in-love, Courtney, leaving behind a legacy of love for the outdoors, mountains, music, fishing, and a deep Christian faith.

Doug lived an active life full of outdoor adventures. He was an Eagle Scout and spent his youth in Tacoma riding his motorcycle, camping, and fishing. He and his brothers Dennis and Jeff loved playing and hiking in the woods around their house. He spent summers with his Dad and loved riding horses and learning to hunt ducks and geese. In high school he picked up the guitar and started a rock and roll band with some friends which continued into college at Washington State University, where he graduated with a degree in Teaching and Business.

After college Doug taught school for a few years before moving to Richland, WA to sell real estate. One fateful night at the Tri-City Ski Club he met Camila Jean Hovley and knew right away that she, a farm girl, was the one for him. Nine months later, on September 30th, 1978 they were married.

Doug and Cam started attending church at The Cathedral of the Desert in Richland WA, where they grew in their faith and raised their two sons. He enjoyed volunteering and eventually came to lead the Boy Scout Troop, Troop 190, one of the most active troops in the state. He pioneered a whitewater canoeing program as well as winter camping and mountaineering, which impacted many young men and culminated in him summing the 10 peaks over 10,000ft high in the Pacific Northwest.

Doug loved people, loved to talk, and had an entrepreneurial spirit. He was a greeter at church for years, taught high-school and Jr. high at various times, worked in sales for multiple companies including a business consulting firm, and owned his own business multiple times, at one point his own consulting company, and finally, owning a Stemwave company, helping people with aches, pains and joint problems. He often expressed deep satisfaction and excitement talking about the amazing results he helped achieve for his clients.

Doug will be remembered most for his deep love of life, his steadfast faith in God, and his devotion to his family. His adventurous spirit, generous heart, and enduring example of faith and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Capital Church located at 2760 E. Fairview Ave Meridian, Idaho. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Capital Church https://www.capitalchurch.co/give Condolences may be left for the family at www.bowmanfuneral.com
