Donald Ray Greer, 83, of Fort Worth, Texas, left us peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Eagle, Idaho, at Edgewood Spring Creek Assisted Living. A hard-working and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Don will always be remembered for the love he had for his family and how he expressed his love for others in the food he enjoyed with them.

Born on January 18, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, Don grew up as the only son of Olen Greer and Evelyn Wallin and younger brother to one sister, Helen Austin. He was an all-around athlete with outstanding talent in football, basketball, and golf; Don was a long-time member of the Southwest Deaf Golf Association and was even invited to the Deaf Olympics for pole vaulting.  He loved working in the yard and around the home, traveling with friends, eating good food, and day-trading in his retirement.

After graduating from the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin (1961) and then Colorado College (1970), he earned a journeyman’s license in printing and built a career at the Fort Worth Star Telegram in the Composition Room, or “Mock-Up” department, putting together each edition individually by hand and devouring the news as he worked whenever it was possible.

On June 20, 1964, Don married the love of his life, Winnie June Greer. The two shared a loving relationship that lasted 60 years and were blessed with two daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren with more on the way.

Don is survived by his wife, Winnie June Greer, their two daughters and their husbands, Dana Cay and Kurt Spoonemore, and Lana Kim and Michael Goff, as well as his grandchildren Hayley and Jacob Degitz, Hanna and Filimon Miranda, Kevin Spoonemore, and Sam Spoonemore, and his two great-grandchildren Grayson Richard and Wyatt Greer Degitz. Finally, his rescue cat “Kitty.”

He was preceded in death by his father Olen Greer and his wife Oleta of Flower Mound, his mother Evelyn Wallin and her husband Merl of Grapevine, and his sister Helen Austin and her husband Raymond of Justin, Texas.

A private service to celebrate Don’s life will be held in Boise, Idaho for his immediate family members in honor of his wishes. All are welcome to visit and pay their respects at his mausoleum in the Bluebonnet Hills cemetery of Colleyville, Texas.
