Listen to Obituary

Deryl Geren, 77, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and dogs after a long and courageous battle of cancer.

Born in Castleford, Idaho, Deryl grew up with a love for the outdoors that would shape every part of his life. For 38 years, he worked with Idaho Power, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned the respect of his colleagues and friends. After retiring, he continued to pour his energy into his 50-acre property in Fairfield, where he found joy in caring for his cows and spending time in the wide-open spaces he cherished.

Deryl was never happier than when he was out in the backcountry—exploring rugged trails in his classic ’48 Willys Jeep, surrounded by Idaho’s mountains and wilderness. He shared that love of adventure and appreciation for the simple beauty of nature with everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Laurie; his children, Mark (Marcela), Jodi, and Megan (Peter); and his grandchildren, Sully, Lucas, and Siena. His family and friends will remember him for his steady kindness, gentle humor, and the quiet strength that made him the heart of his family.

A celebration of Deryl’s life will be held at a later date, where loved ones will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Deryl by spending time in nature, fixing something with your hands, or taking a drive down a dirt road—just as he would have loved.
