Derek Roy Alger was born in Boise, ID on December 17, 1981 to Brent and Gwen Alger of Meridian, ID. He was the third born with two older siblings, Brian Alger and Robin (Alger) Forbus of Meridian.
He lived in Meridian for most of his life where he attended Meridian Elementary, Middle, and High school and graduated in 2000. Derek spent time working as a corrections officer, security guard, and in a facility for challenged boys.
He finally found his most loved job and second family at Caring Transitions. He enjoyed working for his boss Albert and with his best friend Zach. When a particular move involved the elderly, Derek could be found among them sharing conversation and usually a hug. He had a kind heart and always showed respect when it was deserved.
His kind heart lead him to regularly donate blood at the American Red Cross where he was so proud to have just reached the gallon milestone. He would take sleeping bags to the homeless shelter and fostered many dogs over the years with hope that they could be trained and find loving forever homes.
Derek loved camping, reading, off-roading in his beloved truck (which for him meant getting stuck), playing video games with his brother and Zach, being the life of the party, and hanging out with his nephews and nieces whom he considered to be his legacy. He cherished all of his dogs, as they were his children, and Bella was by his side to the very end!
Your goofiness and antics will be greatly missed until we meet again. Love you so much!
