Star

On this Memorial Day, remember Dennis Barrett, who passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025.  He was born in Anthony, Kansas December 17, 1948.  He developed a special bond with his younger sister Janice Barrett as they played on the farm.  He attended Spring Grade School and Anthony High School.  Upon completion of his formative years, he attended Kansas State University studying Music, one of his lifelong loves.

In 1976 Dennis moved to Idaho where he found himself and developed a strong circle of friends who loved and respected him as he was.  His great smile, sense of humor, and organization abilities are missed.  He joined a Men's Choir where he sang beautifully.  He gained respect as the Business Manager of St. Alphonsus Home Health, co-leading the department, negotiating the ins and outs of the changing Health Care Climate and Medicare's reality.  He finished his working life at St. Luke's Home Health.

Dennis is remembered as being a backpacker, taking five trips a year with Elvina, Jay and other Mountain West adventures.  Planning began early in the year and were well organized thanks to Dennis.  His second hobby, photography, went hand in hand with exploring and he has multiple files of Idaho high alpine mountain lakes and surrounding states.  Winters found him skiing Cross Country and the Downhill.  He talked Janice to taking up the sport which they enjoyed together.

As going to Boise State games became watching on TV with friends, then just staying by himself: as backpacking became day hikes and skiing became "overcrowded," Dennis's love of music and reading continued.

In 2021 he was diagnosed with Aphasic Dementia and he preferred to stay at home with Janice as his caregiver.  He was admitted to Foxtail Assisted Living Memory Care in January and Keystone Hospice this past month.  He passed with Janice by his side.  Janice wishes to thank his caregivers for the attention they gave him.  Condolences can be sent to Bowman Funeral Directors.  Further arrangements are pending.
