Delbert Stevens

Delbert Roy Stevens, known affectionately as Del, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 75, in Star, Idaho. Born on April 23, 1949, in Nampa, Idaho, Del spent his entire life embodying the spirit of a true cowboy. His early years were marked by a profound connection with horses, beginning to ride at the tender age of three and progressing to train horses by the age of ten.

Del was a cornerstone of the Star community, known for his honesty, hard work, and straight-shooting personality. He was a loving father, a dear friend to many, and a mentor who imparted wisdom about dedication, commitment, and perseverance to those fortunate enough to learn from him. Del’s life was a testament to his passion for horse breeding, a craft he perfected over 50 years, impacting many by allowing individuals to work for a horse annually, thereby gaining invaluable experience.

Del’s presence was a familiar comfort in Star, often seen driving his iconic ’71 Blue Chevy and spending time at the Star Cafe. He lived his final days as he wished, passing away on his beloved ranch under the care of his daughter.

Del is survived by his daughter, Cori Rashell “Shelly” Ball; his sister, Irene Stevens; and his brothers, Pete, Adrian, and Leland Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zelda and Leroy Stevens.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Star Cemetery. This will be followed by a celebration of life at the Star Friends Community Center Barn. Bowman Funeral Parlor of Eagle, ID, is assisting the family during this time.

Del’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, in the gallop of the horses he trained, and in the wide-open spaces of Star, where his spirit will forever roam freely.
