Delbert R. (Woody) Wood
On the Sunny morning of July 1st, our beloved husband, dad and Papa, left this world to be reunited with his family and pets who have gone before him. A true Boisean, Woody was born December 19th 1941 in Boise, Idaho to Kathryn Clapsaddle and Charles Edward Wood in Boise, Idaho at St Lukes Hospital. Other than being stationed stateside and deployments overseas Woody spent the majority of his life loving Idaho and its natural beauty. Many summers were spent fishing and camping near Cascade, Idaho where he shared his love for nature with his family.
Woody is survived by his wife Lois wood, his daughters LeiLani Young, Kimberly Olson, sons Ron Wood, Jon Wood, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A man with a gentle heart and calm demeanor was a friend to all. He loved his many pets and all animals he came across, often feeding the squirrels taking home in his large trees and leaving food and water for the neighborhood stray cats. His grandbabies were his joy. He loved making them laugh and spoiling them with special treats and stuffies won from the claw machines he had mastered. When not caring for others he was caring for his yard. No matter the weather you would find him tending to his luscious green yard with pride. Woody was an Army Veteran and anyone who was blessed enough to meet him knew he was a proud American who always made sure his flag flew high and often wore one of his many patriotic hats. After retiring from the military with 22 years of services he was drawn to preserving Idaho’s beauty and joined the Idaho forestry Service as a Wildland Fighter until he was 49.
Although often a man of few words Woody went about his days showing love in the ways he knew best, through acts of services and small meaningful gifts. It wasn’t uncommon to walk out to him wiping down your car after a rain storm or showing up to find one of your favorite treats waiting for you because he knew it would make you smile. When he did choose to use his voice it was often to crack jokes that only he understood or were so odd everyone couldn’t help but laugh. A truly selfless man who shined a light in this world that brought joy to so many and will never be forgotten.
On July 1st after a long fight against many health battles and a weekend surrounded and cared for by family, Woody closed his eyes and allowed the Lord to take him home to see his longed for Mom and Dad. We love you and pray that you have found what you were looking for in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr. in Garden City.
