In Loving Memory of Delbert E. Drake
October 13, 1938 – December 23, 2024
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Delbert E. Drake, a truly extraordinary man whose life embodied kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering love. On December 23rd, surrounded by his cherished family, Del peacefully left this world, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will forever be celebrated.
Born on October 13, 1938, in Orange California, Del was a man of incredible intelligence, loyalty, creativity and generosity. From a young age, he displayed a gentle spirit and a passion for making a difference. Del graduated from Orange Coast College, then went into the Navy on board the U.S.S. Prairie stationed in San Diego. After the service he opened his own HVAC business where he successfully ran until his move to Idaho in 1991.
After his retirement, Del dedicated much of his life to creating the Idaho Senior Softball Association, a league for men over 60, ensuring that senior citizens could enjoy healthy, active lives through the camaraderie of softball. This league stands as a testament to his dedication and vision for fostering community and vitality.
Del was also a man of many passions. An old car enthusiast, he inherited his love for classic automobiles from his father, Ernie Drake, learning to modify and repair them with unmatched skill. His creativity extended beyond mechanics; Del was an avid painter and gardener, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature and the strokes of his brush.
A devoted husband to Joyce Drake for 34 years, their love story was one of partnership, devotion, and shared dreams. As a father to Scott Drake, Jeff Drake, Karen Drake, and stepfather to Yvonne Fisher, Larry Benedict and Andrea Holmes, Del was a steadfast source of love, guidance, and inspiration. He led by example, instilling in his family the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness.
Del’s warmth extended far beyond his family. As a beloved member of his community, he touched countless lives with his generosity, charm, and infectious smile. Whether he was playing softball, restoring classic cars, or sharing his artwork, Del always made time to connect with those around him, making everyone feel valued.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Drake; his children, Scott (Jeannie), Jeff, and Karen (Jeff Figueroa); his stepchildren, Yvonne (Bryan) Fisher, Andrea (Brad) Holmes, and Larry (Patty) Benedict; and his grandchildren, Josephine Drake, Brittyn, Cameron, and Dylan Figueroa, Bryanna and Ryan Benedict, Hailey Fisher, and great grandchildren Bodie, Everley, RJ, Sophia and Junior. Del is now reunited with his brother, Jim Drake, and his parents, Ernie and Elizabeth Drake, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
Services will be held at the Commital Center with Military Honors at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho on Friday, January 3, 2025, at precisely 1:00 p.m. We invite all attendees to honor Del’s memory by wearing Idaho Senior Softball attire reflecting his passion for softball.
Rest in peace, Del. Your radiant smile, your generous heart, and the light you brought to so many lives will never be forgotten. Your legacy lives on in the love you gave and the countless lives you touched.
