Deborah Lynn Siemons Kester was born on November 3, 1961, at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California, a suburb of San Diego. Her parents were Linda Bender Siemons and Carl Siemons.
She grew up in Lakeside, California, with her brothers David, Bob, and Lorne, and her sister Leilani. She also had two half-siblings, Leanne and Tim, who lived with their father in Washington.
She grew up in a simple home on a large corner lot. For a period of time, the family owned a pet store, so the yard was home to horses, guinea pigs, and all sorts of critters. She never lost her love for animals, and from an early age she seemed to have a special way of bringing calm to even the most timid of them. There was even a time when Rascal, the raccoon from the 1969 Disney movie, lived at their home.
Debbie went to school in Lakeside, and in high school she joined the drill team and marching troop, traveling to parades and festivals. She graduated from high school in 1979 and married Edward Kester on April 4, 1980.
She decided that being a wife and mother was more important to her than choosing a career outside the home. She reveled in family life, and her children and grandchildren reaped the harvest of her devotion to that role.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie; her children, Curtis, Eric, and Cati; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Lucis; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
Later in life, Debbie found another purpose as she counseled and consoled women who had survived childhood abuse. Debbie purposefully chose not to be defined by circumstances that were outside her control. Instead, she used her life and her experiences to encourage others, offering hope, compassion, and understanding to women who needed
