Dave was the son of Clifford Eugene and Nora Mae (Hannan) Hobson, and he was born in Seattle, WA. Most of his life was spent in Boise, Idaho, other than 4 years serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Dave was a true Renaissance Man, having studied and played violin from elementary school into adulthood. He was a gifted singer, performing with Boise Master Chorale, the B Sharps, and several Boise Music Week productions including My Fair Lady in 1984.
Dave was a gifted painter, having studied for over 20 years until the week before he died. Dave was also a master elementary teacher for over 26 years in the West Ada School District. He would still hear from former students, though he retired in 2000.
Because of his love of art, he and wife Bobbie traveled to more than 65 countries, all 50 states and many parts of Mexico and Canada, always visiting the premier art museums whenever they went. Their home's walls were covered with painted scenes and people from around the world.
Dave was a Christian all his life. One of our most fruitful blessings came from a month-long trip to Papua New Guinea, in 1990, where he taught art to tribal men, illustrated a "big" book for literacy, and interacted joyfully with the Saniyo Hiyewe people.
For 49 years, Dave was my best friend in all of life's joys and sorrows. He is so dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Uncle Dale Hobson, and his beloved mother-in-law Elyse. He is survived by his children: Shelley, Jeff (Liz), his stepdaughter Lisa (Patrick), grandchildren Spencer (Kate), Lindsey (Nate), Zach (Ashley), Cedar (Jake), and great grands Harper, Harrison, Theo, and Maxwell (due in September), our sister Lisa Stewart, and his brothers Bob and Rick Hobson. He leaves behind many wonderful friends from church and Jazzercise Class (for 45 years!).
A celebration of Dave's life will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 2206 N Cole Rd, Boise ID 83704 on August 1st at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the American Heart Association or to the Idaho Humane Society.
