Darlene was born on July 27,1934 to Alpha Mae Waugh. With an unknown father and her mother unable to care for her she was taken home from the hospital at St. Mary’s in Los Angeles CA by her grandparents and later adopted by them at the age of 8. Levi Dart Northrop and Myrtle Alabama Brown raised and cared for Darlene. She grew up on a ranch in Tulare CA and spent her evenings with her grandparents in the Bar they owned called The Hi De Ho Club. Darlene was mentored there by a colored man named Sam who taught her how to play the piano and she sang. Darlene would help clean up the dance hall after hours and saved all the coins the sailors would drop on the floor in a large piggy bank for her schooling.
Darlene ran away with her best friend Delores one night to Reno and both married their high school sweethearts at the age of 15. When her grandmother, Myrtle found out in the papers it was no longer a secret and off she went to live a life of adulthood.
From that time forth Darlene spent her whole life looking for love. It was an arduous journey filled with adventures, trauma and excitement. She was an award winning stage actress and loved to sing at the Bars. After an unusually intense heartbreak from a beloved boyfriend, Darlene finally found her true love in Jesus Christ, her savior and King. She gained a deep and abiding testimony, as deep as her heartbreaks in life that filled her soul completely. She later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was fortunate to take out her endowments in the Temple. Darlene’s love for Jesus and our Heavenly Father was sealed with her many friends and loved ones and the testimony she bore to all who met her.
