Dale N. Chatterton was born in Logan, Utah on September 9, 1936, the fourth son of Leland L. Chatterton and Indra Nyborg Chatterton. Dale passed away on June 7 th surrounded by his loving family.

When Dale was two years old his family moved to Preston, Idaho where he grew up with a love of all sports with his family loving sports as much as he did.  It didn’t seem to matter whether it was football, basketball, track, or baseball.

He had a rewarding high school career at Preston High School where he lettered in all four sports. They won the District Championship his Jr. and Sr. years in football, basketball, and baseball.

In college he lettered in football and baseball at Boise Junior College. After two years in Boise, he continued playing football and baseball at Idaho State University.

After graduating from Idaho State, he accepted a teaching and coaching position at Richfield High School. After two years he accepted a coaching position at South Fremont High School in St. Anthony, Idaho. One year later he was offered an assistant football coaching and head basketball coaching position at Boise Junior College.

Dale always said that the best thing that ever happened to him, however, was not in sports. It was when he met the LOVE of his Life… Carole Joy Williams … from Richfield, Idaho, and somehow convinced her to marry him on March 25, 1961. Undoubtedly the smartest and luckiest thing he ever did. Together with his eternal companion, they raised 3 children. Carma Chatterton, spouse Ray Olson, Michael Chatterton and Kristi Chatterton, spouse Chris Frith.

He felt it was such a blessing to raise their children and eventually their grandchildren among wonderful people here in the Boise Valley. Along with 3 children they have 10 grandchildren. Jordon Chatterton, Parker Olson, Sidney Frith, Riley Frith, Carlee Olson, Cooper Frith, Zachary Chatterton, Katie Chatterton, Laney Olson, and Makenzie Frith.

He spent 26 years at East Junior High School in Boise, Idaho. He served as a Teacher, Coach and Athletic Director and a couple of years as the Assistant Principal. He really enjoyed his time at East. He was surrounded with a wonderful faculty, administers, coaches and students. During this time he conducted a basketball camp for 18 years, Chat’s Cage Camp.

He had a deep love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. During this time he had many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that enriched his life. After retiring, he and his wife Carole served a Church and Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He wanted people to know of his love and heartfelt appreciation for those who have contributed so richly to his life as well as his family’s lives.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at noon, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1450 W.
