Christopher Tyler Doggett
Christopher Tyler Doggett passed away on April 10, 2023, in Boise, Idaho. Tyler, as he was known, was born August 1, 1967, in Stamford, Connecticut to Thomas and Mary Carolyn (Harrill) Doggett, joining older brothers Tee and Scott to complete the Doggett family. When Tyler was five the family moved to Columbus, Ohio. Tyler attended school through high school in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
Tyler was raised with a love of sailing, skiing, and generally having a good time. These interests stayed with him throughout his life. Tyler often told stories of his older brother Tee sharing music with him when he was young, developing a lifelong love of listening to vinyl and live music.
Upon high school graduation, Tyler began in earnest his pursuit of adventure that guided him his entire life. He attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida graduating in 1989. Career stops after college included working in ski services, as a search and rescue team member, and in sales for Syn-Tech Ltd. – all of which he excelled at before ultimately finding the career that he loved as a wildland firefighter.
Tyler’s work history and love of adventure had him living and working in places across the country, including: Charleston, South Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; several places in Colorado; Moran, Wyoming and Boise, Idaho. In each of these spectacular locations Tyler formed lifelong friendships.
In his wildland fire management career, Tyler worked for the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. He was a proud alumnus of the Alpine Interagency Hotshot Crew based in Colorado at Rocky Mountain National Park and a veteran smokejumper with the Great Basin Smokejumper program based in Boise, Idaho. He worked in fuels management, training development, and as a fire behavior analyst on incident management teams. He also earned his pilot’s license.
Tyler was a dedicated professional in his work. At the time of his passing, Tyler served as the Air Tactical Group Supervisor based in Elko, Nevada. In this capacity, he was a calming voice to the firefighters on the ground. When they heard Tyler fly over the scene, they knew help had arrived. His fast and aggressive initial attack motto was among the best in business.
Tyler was fierce about taking care of the people he loved in all aspects of his life. He maintained close relationships with family and friends across the country. He was loyal, kind, mischievous, generous, and simply fun to spend time with. Tyler was a true renaissance man and a complete gentleman. He demonstrated that marching to the beat of your own drum is an amazing character trait to be celebrated. His love of life, culture, family, and friends was obvious when you spent time with him. Tyler will be missed by all who knew him.
Tyler is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Carolyn and brothers Tee and Scott. He is survived by his beloved dog Daffodil, sister-in-law Pamela, Aunt Nan, many cousins, and hundreds of friends.
