Christina (Tina) M. Whaley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home on March 24 th , 2024, in Boise, ID at the age of 72, with her husband and youngest daughter by her side.
Born July 1, 1951, to Doug & Ruby Carmichael, Tina grew up in Seattle. She went to parochial grade school, Nathan Eckstein MS, and Roosevelt HS. As a teenager, she was an avid backpacker and hiked with student groups through the North Cascades. At the University of Washington, she studied Art History & Latin American studies. In 1970, she met Pat, and they got married in 1973. They soon moved to Wyoming for work and met some wonderful friends who they still see today. Katie was born in Wyoming. Krystyn was born in Nevada. The family moved to Boise in 1985.
Tina and Pat are long-time parishioners of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Tina was on altar guild, made delicious gluten free food for coffee hour, and donated many quilts to fundraisers over the years. Tina also enjoyed playing bunco with friends every month. She was active in the local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization and has been recording secretary and corresponding secretary. Through these varied pursuits, Tina touched many lives and formed lifelong friendships.
Tina was always creative and artistic. In the 1990s and 2000s, she made rustic furniture and hand-painted and hand-sewn crafts for a successful holiday bazaar she ran with a good friend. Later, Tina became a prolific quilter. Chances are, if she met you once or knew someone who mentioned you, then she made you a quilt (or two). Everyone who received her quilts treasures them. She was known for her wonderful cooking, her witty humor, and her steadfast support for friends and family.
Tina is survived by her loving husband, Pat Whaley; daughters, Katie Dodsley (Eric) and Krystyn Stone (Robyn); grandchildren Charles, Robert, and Ruby; and siblings Maria White and Douglas Carmichael (Kathy).
We thank the many wonderful friends who visited her often after her diagnosis and who helped ease this loss by lifting us up in love, prayer, and support. The many cards she received show just how much she was loved and the many people whose lives she touched. We are forever grateful for the community that continues to surround us.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13 th at 4pm at St. Stephan’s Episcopal Church in Boise. If you have a quilt made by Tina, feel free to bring it to the memorial for all to see. Further information about a celebration of life in Seattle will be provided at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Institute in Tina’s memory.
