Cheryl Elizabeth De Pina
Cheryl Elizabeth DePina was born June 29, 1949 in Ottawa, Kansas and passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025 in Boise, Idaho.
The beloved daughter to Keny and Alice Sellers. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, older sister, only daughter and second husband. She is survived by her only granddaughter, two sisters, her brother and many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 18 Cheryl enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in February of 1968. She earned her Eagle Globe and Anchor and title of United States Marine at MCRD Parris Island, North Carolina. Following boot camp she attended MOS School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina training to be a 3421 Personal Finance Records Clerk, during which time she remembered getting the news that Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated. After training she was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California with the 5th Marine Division. She recalled having the honor of welcoming Marines on the tarmac and disbursing their pay as they returned home from Vietnam. She was especially proud of her duties in a time of political upheaval when U.S. troops were treated poorly elsewhere. She recalled having been at home on leave when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Cheryl earned the rank of Corporal of Marines and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for her outstanding service, and was Honorably Discharged in September 1969.
Cheryl enjoyed taking car rides, particularly to McCall, Idaho where she had settled with her second husband prior to moving to Payette. She enjoyed deer hunting, bird, duck and squirrel watching, arts and crafts and most importantly enjoyed life with those she loved.
A pure heart gone. A warm smile. A never ending love. A hug that took you home. Gone. We can’t say gone too soon though because she lived a long and happy life. A proud mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and veteran. Fulfilled her duties here and let everyone know when she was done. The stubbornness flowed into her from her parents and this past week showed just that. Cheryl fought long enough to stay and say what needed to be said to those she needed to say it to and then she was ready. Although nobody else was ready to send her home, it wasn’t our choice and she made sure we knew.
Rest in peace to one of the most pure and beautiful humans. One of the strongest woman to have been a part of our lives. A woman who gave out the purest and the most non-judgemental kind of love. Always offered an ear to listen and words to make you feel better. We know you are no longer in pain and at peace. We will miss you today, tomorrow and forever.
