Charlotte Elaine Moon
Charlotte Elaine Moon, 80, passed peacefully at home on December 17, 2022, after a short battle with end stage kidney failure. She was recently preceded in death by her daughter Holly Weaver on October 19, 2022, which probably contributed to a rapid decline in her health.
Charlotte was born in Rupert, Idaho on October 18, 1942, to Irvin and Leola Stapleman. After her father died when she was young, her mother married Ivan Stokes, and he was a wonderful, loving father to Charlotte and her sisters.
Charlotte married Nile Udell Moon (Udy) on December 15, 1962 and raised two wonderful daughters Kathy and Holly. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family deeply. She was a stay-at-home mom until the girls were older, and then she went to work in the field with Udy surveying for her brother-in-law Durrells’ engineering business. When they were empty nesters, they decided to move up to Stanley to help Durrell mine, and then stayed up there for ten years working at the Mountain Village Lodge. Charlotte worked as a maid while Udy bartended. When they got tired of the cold weather in Stanley, they moved back to Rupert so that they could help out her mother Leola.
When Udy decided to start driving long haul trucks, Charlotte went along for the ride. She developed a talent for going to the bathroom in a can standing up, while the truck was hurtling down the interstate at 65 miles per hour! She was a good sport and wonderful companion on Udy’s adventures. She had an infectious giggle that her daughters inherited. It was easy to see that they were related when you heard them all laughing.
She and Udy just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 15th, even though she was too sick to enjoy it.
Thank you to my father Udy for the wonderful care that he gave her during her 3-year battle with dementia and three-week battle with kidney failure.
She is survived by her husband Udy, daughter Kathy Sturm, son-in-law Craig Weaver (Holly), sisters Shirley Carter and Cindy Stamm (Kenny), brother and sister-in-law Durrell and Marilyn Moon, sister-in-law Sheri Hathaway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Holly Weaver and son-in-law David Sturm.
No services will be held at this time, but a private, informal family gathering may be held in the summer to celebrate her life.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
