Charley was raised in Boise as the middle son of 5 boys. He graduated from Borah High School and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated with honors from the University of Idaho in 1974, earning a B.S. Business degree with an Accounting Major. He passed the C.P.A. exam in 1974 on the 1 st attempt. Following graduation, Charley was commissioned a 2 nd Lieutenant, Finance Corps, in the U. S. Army Reserve where he completed his ROTC service commitment as a citizen soldier over the next six years. Charley achieved the rank of Captain.
Charley began his business career as a C.P.A. in Boise working for the public accounting firm that is now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited. His varied work experience included finance, accounting, and leadership roles in the construction, hi-tech manufacturing, and wholesale distribution industries. Charley was President of Idaho’s largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship prior to purchasing Stinker Stores with a partner, Shawn Davis, on November 11, 2002 and then, together with his wife, Nancy, buying out that partner on December 4, 2012.
With his ongoing commitment to giving, Charley ensured that Stinker is a Bright Spot for each community in which they are located, through active involvement, engagement and support of charities focused on food insecurity and domestic violence, as well as local events across three states. Nate Brazier, current Stinker President and CEO, commented that “Charley was absolutely one in a million. His unrivaled business savvy combined with his generous and giving heart made him the Hero of Stinker’s last 20 + years and an absolutely amazing visionary to work under. He is and always will be the greatest Stinker of all.”
Charley met and married his wife Nancy in 1997. Together they have two sons, Nikolaus and Charley Duncan, who are both currently serving in the US Army. Nikolaus and his wife, Casey, have one daughter, Natalie.
Charley is preceded in death by his father, Leo Coe Jones (May 19, 1964), and his mother, Bertha Bertola Jones (May 2, 2019). He leaves behind his wife Nancy Jones, son and daughter-in-law, Nikolaus and Casey Jones and their daughter, Natalie Jones, son, Charley Duncan Jones, brothers and sisters-in law, Leo Mike and Ellen Jones, Rodger and Marilu Jones, Larry and Maria Jones and Jerry and Heidi Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Folds of Honor, Folds of Honor – Scholarships for Military and First Responder Families .
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Arid Club, 1137 W. River St, Boise, Idaho on Wednesday, August 28, from 2pm – 4pm.
