Charles B. “Chuck” Hervey, 89, a resident of Boise, passed away October 26, 2025, in Boise.

Charles B. “Chuck” Hervey was born in Parma, Idaho, to Elvin Hervey and Ester McNeese. When he was two years old, the family moved to Boise, where Chuck spent his childhood exploring the foothills, skiing, camping, and enjoying time at the family cabin in McCall.

He attended Central School, North Junior High, and graduated from Boise High School in the Class of 1954. He later attended Boise Junior College.

Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving at West Point, where he drove for the General, served in the Honor Guard, and assisted instructors teaching cadets map-reading skills. Following his service, he earned a degree in Economics from the University of Idaho.

After graduation, Chuck moved to Washington, D.C., living on Capitol Hill with roommates who were members of the Capitol Police. He taught geography in an inner-city school before joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he worked on the team that developed the Food Stamp Program.

While living in D.C., Chuck met the girl next door, Kay Riley. They married after Chuck began working for American Express, training as a military banker in Manhattan and Okinawa. Their wedding, held during Typhoon 1—with no electricity or water—was as memorable as it was beautiful. This past August, Chuck and Kay celebrated 62 wonderful years together.

Chuck’s career with American Express took the couple around the world—from Manhattan to Taipei, Bombay, Karachi, and Chittagong. During his international service, Chuck and Kay became parents to their beloved children, Richard Krishnan and Kamala. The family later settled in New Delhi, where they experienced the 13-day conflict between India and Pakistan, before returning home to Boise.

Back in Idaho, Chuck worked for First Security Bank while earning his MBA at Boise State University. His career then led him to the University of California, with assignments in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Jakarta, Indonesia. Eventually, he returned to Boise, where he spent more than 40 years as a banker.

After retiring from banking, Chuck found a new passion for teaching. He worked for 11 years as a Title One assistant teacher at Morley Nelson Elementary, where he was beloved by students and staff alike.

Chuck and Kay traveled extensively—living in five countries, visiting Europe, and even climbing the Great Pyramid in Cairo. In later years, they enjoyed a quieter life together in Boise, surrounded by cherished friends and family.

Chuck’s life was one of service, adventure, and love—a journey that touched countless lives around the world.
