Charles (Charlie) Edward Coon, age 79, passed away on January 17, 2024 in Boise, Idaho with his family at his side.
Charles was born on July 20, 1944 in Nampa, Idaho to George L. Coon and Helen Zimmerman Coon. He had two brothers named Gerald and Sam. After spending his childhood years on the family farm in Middleton, he graduated from high school in 1962. Then he pursued an education in business administration at the University of Idaho. After one school year there, he transferred to Boise Junior College (which became Boise College and is now known as Boise State University). He earned credits towards a B.A. in business marketing. During the mid 1960’s to the early 1970’s, he also served in the Idaho Air National Guard.
Charles spent all of his adult working years at Alsco Linen Service. He was promoted from a delivery driver to the office manager and ended his career there as the linen control manager. After 38 years of hard work at Alsco, he retired.
Charles married the love of his life, Jan Fisher, on December 22, 1966. They recently celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary with their loved ones. Jan said that she and Charles never once regretted marrying each other and that this modified quote from a 1864 poem by Robert Browning defined their love for one another: “Come my love. Grow old with me. The best is yet to be.”
Charles was a kind, loving father, and he lived sacrificially putting others first. He liked fishing, hunting, camping, cutting firewood, woodworking, Dutch oven cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, making others laugh, and being helpful. Mostly, he enjoyed being with his wife, children, and grandchildren (of whom he was very proud).
Just last week, Charles professed his faith and love for the Lord. John 3:16 and 1 John were the Bible passages that he wanted read aloud on the day before he passed away.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. He is survived by his wife, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, two children, one son-in-law, four grandchildren, one grandson-in-law, and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church located at 6864 N. Glenwood St, Garden City, Idaho.
Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to the Boise Rescue Mission.
