On August 28th, 2026 - Charles "Chuck" Wroughton Davis, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and proud WWII and Korean War veteran, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. On August 16th Chuck celebrated his 100th birthday in Melba, Idaho with his daughter Victoria by his side.
Chuck was born August 16th, 1926 in Royal Oak Michigan to Charles Henry Davis of Plymouth England, and Eva Gladys (Vickers) Davis of London England. Chuck grew up in Royal Oak and lived with his parents, sisters Muriel and Kathleen, and his grandma Alice Edgerton of Plymouth England.
In 1944 after graduating High School, Chuck enlisted in the Navy and shipped off for six weeks of boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois followed by 12 weeks of Navy Radio Operators training at the University of Wisconsin. Chuck's first assignment was to Navy Radio Station Naples Italy, that supported Allied operations during WWII coordinating military communications. Chuck was reassigned to the USS Craven, DD382 (destroyer) conducting patrol operations in the Mediterranean. The 'Craven' supported operations including the allied invasion of Southern France (1944) as well as air strikes and convoy operations throughout the region. Chuck remained on the 'Craven' until its WWII decommissioning at Pearl Harbor in 1946. Following, Chuck was discharged from active service while remaining in the Naval reserves, and returned home to Michigan to continue his college studies and work in finance.
In July 1948 Chuck married Suzann 'Sue' Phillips of Clawson Michigan, and in 1950 Chuck and Sue moved to Glendale California and eventually settled in Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley. Chuck worked at Standard Oil in Los Angeles until, in 1951 he was recalled to active duty as a Radioman during the Korean War.
Chuck served aboard the USS Summit County, LST1146 (tank landing ship) where he was involved in operations transporting a Marine Tank Group into Inchon Korea, and landing California National Guard troops in Pusan Korea. Other operations included supporting resupply expeditions to Point Barrow and Barter Island Alaska that focused on providing aircraft fuel for missions flying over the 'top of the world'. Chuck was discharged in 1952 where he landed his career home with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, California where he worked for 35 years until his well deserved retirement in 1991.
Following retirement Chuck and Sue moved north to Magalia, CA where they enjoyed the mountain life and true change of seasons. Chuck was a member of the Paradise Baptist church serving as a deacon, and leader of adult group bible studies. With his love of gardening, Chuck was more than excited to join fellow gardeners in the caretaking of the church's hundreds of rose bushes.
Chuck and Sue eventually moved back to Ventura in Southern California where they called home for over 25 years. Chuck continued gardening, enjoyed golfing every week with the Ventura Marina MHP Golf Club, and spending time with his Lord and Savior while active in church and devotions.
Chuck was preceded in his death by his parents Charles and Eva Davis, his sisters Muriel and Kathleen, his wife Suzann of 73 years, and his grandson Jake. Chuck is survived by his three children and their spouses Vicki and Don Moormeister (Melba, ID), Jon and Lisa Davis (Palm Coast, FL), Kim and Buck Hyde (Santa Margarita CA), and nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Chuck is buried at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery - Boise along side his wife Sue.
