Cassie was born in Boise, Idaho and raised by loving parents, Ed Maloney and Maxine (Dubois) Maloney. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Bishop Kelly High School. After 2 years at Boise State University, she transferred to Northwest Nazarene University and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Though her professional career took her in a different direction, her love of cooking and entertaining was a source of joy her entire life.
In the mid 70’s Cassie, with her Mom, Dad and sister Colleen, moved to the Seattle area. She began working for the Washington State Department of Employment before moving to the US Department of Labor. During her 30 years there she helped employees get fair wages, retiring in 2010.
In her 30’s she met Rusty Murphy. They were devoted to each other and happily spent the rest of her life together. They escaped the Northwest winters to spend a few months in Arizona where many of their friends and family joined them. Prior to Arizona she saw Thailand, England, Ireland, Hong Kong, the East Coast, Mt Rushmore, Jamaica, Hawaii and Mexico.
Cassie’s indomitable spirit shined bright. She was radiant, brave and game for just about anything. She paddled her own kayak down the Rogue river, rode double on horseback during a cattle drive, skateboarded with her “sticks” and fought hard to enjoy life, despite the challenges polio had thrown her way.
Cassie’s faith was important to her. She was an active member of St. Bridget Parish where she served on the pastoral council. She also was a valued and much loved member of the ACC (Advocacy and Caring for Children) church guild.
Her parents Ed and Maxine Maloney preceded Cassie in death. Her partner Rusty Murphy, sister Colleen Maloney, brother Dan Maloney, sister-in-law Cathy Maloney and brother-in-law Ted Doan survive her. She will be missed by her niece Katie Maloney, and nephews Chris and Pat Maloney, and their children.
