Callaway Edwin Colberg

Callaway Edwin Colberg passed peacefully from this life on December 28, 2022.

Cal was born April 20, 1936 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Edwin and Marjorie Colberg. He spent a few years in Mountain Home, Idaho with his father, mother and grandmother and shortly thereafter they moved to Caldwell, Idaho and then Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Boise High School in 1953.

At 19 Cal enlisted in the army and soon found himself driving truck in Paris, France.  After serving four years in the army Cal received his honorable discharge and returned to civilian life where he attended Boise Junior College (BSU) and in 1960 he became the student body president. It was here he met the love of his life, Gwen.

He met Gwen on the steps of the administration building and the two were married on September 3, 1960.  While living in Boise their family began to grow as they welcomed their son Chris Colberg, their daughter Heather Johnson, and son Lars Colberg.  In 1967 Cal and Gwen built their forever home in Star where their family thrived, living a simple life filled with love.

Cal had many jobs over the years and whether he was working for the U.S. Forest Service, or a sales representative at Gate City Steel, Morrison-Knudsen, or manager at Treasure Valley Concrete, he did every job with an exceptional attitude and flair.  He was always able to connect to those around him in a genuine manner, caring for those he met on a personal level.

In 1984, he retired and joined his bride in the antique restoration business.  His love and talent for wood working showed and he took great pride in restoring history that others could enjoy. His other hobbies included golf, hunting, fishing, and watching football with family.  He was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan.

A man of great faith, Cal was a Deacon in the Star Christian Church and served at both Cherry Lane Christian Church and Eagle Christian Church.  He led many to Jesus and even baptized his own daughter-in-law.

Cal lived in Star until the very end, enjoying the home he poured his heart and soul into, doting on the pets he loved so dearly, and sharing his very special sense of humor with everyone he met.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife, three children, their spouses, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

To a few he was Papa, to all he was a friend. He will be greatly missed.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City.
