Byron “Keith” Schoonover, 63, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Byron was born on April 8, 1963, in Midland, Michigan, to Marvin Keith Schoonover and Wilma Esther (Hough) Schoonover.
Keith spent his early years in Midland, Michigan, before his family moved west. He attended elementary school and junior high in Caldwell and spent his freshman year at Fruitland High School, in Fruitland, Idaho. He later graduated from Orting High School in Orting, Washington.
Throughout his life, Keith made his home in Midland, Michigan; Orting and Olympia, Washington; Caldwell, and Fruitland, Idaho; and ultimately returned to Caldwell, where he spent his later years. He worked in a variety of jobs and retired in 2006. Despite the challenges he faced, Keith maintained a resilient spirit and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Keith enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.. He also loved spending time outdoors and riding his motorcycle to name a few of his favorite hobbies.
Family was an important part of Keith’s life. He is survived by his sisters, Shirley Bort of Surprise, Arizona, Melanie Bruch of Parker, Colorado, Vicki Bright of Cascade, Idaho, Tracy Weissgerber of Maricopa City, Arizona, Robin Roark of Rathdrum, Idaho, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Esther (Hough) Schoonover; his father, Marvin Keith Schoonover; his brother, Alan Schoonover and two nephews, Mathew Tucker and Steven McGehee.
Keith was a member of Caldwell Christian Church and found comfort in his faith and church family.
Those who knew Keith will remember his quiet strength, his love of the outdoors, his enjoyment of hobbies and simple pastimes, and the determination with which he faced life’s challenges. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2026, at Park View Cemetery, 3600 Hwy 30 W, New Plymouth, Idaho.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2026, Caldwell Christian Church, 3207 E. Ustick Rd., Caldwell, Idaho, officiated by Pastor Bill Sperry.
