Brian L. Thompson

Brian L Thompson passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, surrounded by his four daughters and son-in-law. He was born April 5, 1939, to Orval and Mary Thompson in Albion, Idaho.

Brian’s family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho when he was three years old, where he went through school. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1957. After high school, Brian attended BYU in 1957 on a baseball scholarship. He was forever after a True Blue BYU fan.

Brian married the love of his life, DeAnn Dunford Thompson, in 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. Brian and DeAnn served two missions together to the Heber Valley Camp in Heber City, Utah.

Brian’s professional career was in Finance and Banking. He worked for Capital Financial Services for 18 years and then for Beneficial Finance for several years. In 1985, Brian was recruited by Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was named Vice President and Head of Consumer Credit Policy. While at Mellon, Brian served 3 years on the American Bankers Association Executive Committee on Consumer Finance.

After leaving Mellon, Brian worked as Executive Vice President of Retail Banking for West One Bank in Salt Lake City. While there, he served on the Board of Directors of the Utah Bankers Association for three years and was also Chairman of the Ballet West Ambassadors, the fundraising arm of Ballet West. After leaving West One Bank, Brian helped start a credit card bank for H&R Block in Park City, Utah from which he retired. He was an amazing provider for his family and ensured they were well-cared for.

Brian loved to play golf. He played in the Senior PGA tournament Pro-Am for 5 years. Brian and DeAnn also held BYU Football season tickets for my years. Brian was often found in his recliner watching BYU Sports Nation, BYU football or basketball, golf or some type of Western.

Brian was preceded in death by his beloved DeAnn, with whom he is now happily reunited after almost 6 years, his parents and siblings Carol, Pat, and Jack. He is survived by his four daughters, Lisa Robert, Tauna (Doug) Brodhecker, Tammy Calder, and Amy Thompson; his grandchildren Austin Robert, Meg (Brett) Bankus, Bradie Brodhecker and Andy (Sonya) Brodhecker; his great-grandchildren Skylynn, Thomas, Mackenzie, Aisley, Crew, Hayes and Millie; his sisters Diane and Tina, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St Luke’s Hospice for the kind care they gave our father.
