Brian (“Kat”) Keith Umlauf passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024 at a hospital in Meridian, Idaho, with his family by his side. He was born on November 8, 1957 in Tachikawa AFB, Japan while his father was stationed there in the US Air Force. He had fond memories of growing up with his brother in Japan and traveling to other countries throughout his youth, including the Azores. He ultimately settled down in California, where he married and had two daughters (whom he often told, repeatedly, the stories of his youth). In his thirties, he had even expressed to his children, “Don’t be sad if I die. I’ve already lived a full life”.
Brian was a vineyard manager and did freelance construction before he retired in 2019. A few years following retirement, he moved to Emmett, Idaho with his wife to start a small farm. There he was able to live the life he had dreamed of for many years: playing around with his tools (“toys”), discovering the nearby mountains, and fishing every day.
Brian is survived by his wife of 40 years (Cora Umlauf), his two daughters (Chandra Umlauf and Brena Umlauf), his two grand-children (Cora Baseheart and Charlie Jaillet), his aunt (Sallee J. Umlauf), and his uncle/godfather (Ernest Huntzinger). He was preceded in death by his mother (Sallee R. Umlauf), father (Paul Umlauf), and brother (Jon Umlauf).
In lieu of a service being held, his memory can be honored by making charitable donations to the Hillside S.P.C.A. https://www.hillsidespca.com/donate/
